U-M Maizey has been updated for the fall semester. U-M Maizey is a dynamic tool designed to enhance the GenAI experience for faculty and students by leveraging custom datasets. Maizey empowers users to extract valuable insights, discover patterns and gain deeper knowledge from the available datasets.
Canvas has made changes to site navigation for the Assign to function on Assignments, Discussions and Quizzes. Note this feature will return to the previous functionality some time in August or September. In addition, Canvas now allows instructors to assign ungraded discussions, modules and pages. Starting on August 14, 2024, we will be removing the Canvas Media Upload button from the Canvas Rich Content Editor (RCE). This change aims to encourage the use of MiVideo, our dedicated media management platform, which offers superior accessibility, video playback optimization, and storage capabilities. Beginning July 2024, Lecture Recording sites within the CAEN Lecture Recording system will have expiration dates. All sites will be available to the owners and managers for at least one year after the term has ended. No site will be removed before September 2025. Zoom now has an AI Companion tool that can summarize meetings. If activated, the tool will monitor what people say during a meeting, and generate a summary of the meeting which can later be shared with those who attended the meeting.

Effective June 25, 2024, ITS Teaching and Learning will upgrade the default MiVideo media player in Canvas to the newest player by Kaltura. The June upgrade will be the first part of a two-part upgrade to the media player. The second phase, which will address existing embeds in Canvas, is planned for mid-August.
