Starting on August 14, 2024, we will be removing the Canvas Media Upload button from the Canvas Rich Content Editor (RCE). This change aims to encourage the use of MiVideo, our dedicated media management platform, which offers superior accessibility, video playback optimization, and storage capabilities. This only impacts the uploading of videos into Canvas via the RCE and does not impact the use of MiVideo for the embedding of media content.
Why the Change?
- Accessibility: MiVideo with Kaltura player is more accessible than Canvas with auto captioning.
- Playback Optimization: Enjoy adaptive streaming and device compatibility for smoother video playback.
- Content Management: Once the video is uploaded to MiVideo it can be used in multiple courses, without the need to copy or re-create.
What You Need to Do:
If you’re already using MiVideo to add videos to Canvas, no additional action is required. You can continue using MiVideo for all your video uploads and embedding needs. Detailed tutorials and support can be found on our Canvas and MiVideo tutorials site. For further information, refer to our Getting Started Guide to MiVideo in Canvas.
