Changes to CAEN Windows remote desktop services on January 3, 2014
CAEN is announcing three important changes related to the CAEN Windows remote desktop service.
The CAEN Windows remote desktop service provided network access to the same Windows environment, including commercial engineering applications, that is available in CAEN’s student computing labs.
On January 3, 2014 CAEN will:
- Retire the CAEN Windows remote desktop service login
Changes to CAEN Linux Login Service on January 3, 2014
CAEN is announcing two important changes related to the CAEN Linux Login Service.
The Linux login service provided network access to the same Linux environment, including commercial engineering applications, that is available in CAEN’s student computing labs.
On January 3, 2014 CAEN will:
- Remove several of the commercial engineering applications from login.engin.umich.edu (and vnc.engin.umich.edu)
New software must be installed in order to access Windows CLSE remotely
The method for remotely accessing the CAEN Lab Software Environment (CLSE) for Windows is changing. Effective October 8, 2013, it will no longer be possible to access the 2012 CLSE via the http://www.itcs.umich.edu/sites/labs/virtual.php website. Changes to Central Campus CAEN computer locations
Some locations and numbers of CAEN computers on Central Campus have changed over the Summer:
Shapiro
The 34 CAEN computers that had been spread across two rooms in Shapiro have been consolidated to room B100. All computers in this location are now CAEN computers. Another 10 computers will be installed later in the Fall term. Continue Reading »
Specifications and locations of newest CAEN lab computers
324 new HP Z230 computers will be installed over the course of the Fall term to replace the oldest computers in the CAEN labs. The new computers were installed in the following labs:
- Beyster 1620, 1695
- EECS 1230, 4440
- GGBL 2505 (currently under renovation and scheduled to open later in Fall term)
- LBME 1310
- SRB
Renovations in progress for GGBL 2505 CAEN computer lab
GGBL 2505 is currently closed for remodeling and furniture upgrades. This facility will reopen later in the Fall term with collaboration/teaming space for small and larger groups. Each area will equipped with a CAEN desktop computer, large LED monitor, and connections for laptop presentation. Watch for opening announcements later in the term.

SolidWorks 2013 Student Edition available to College of Engineering students
CAEN has received a limited number of one-year licenses for the SolidWorks 2013 Student Edition. These licenses are only available for Microsoft Windows operating systems.
