About 1 in 4 adults (26%) in the U.S. have some type of disability, including issues with mobility, cognition, hearing and vision. Many members of our own community face barriers because of the way information is structured or delivered. Each of us has the power to change that.
U-M is committed to making digital accessibility not just a goal but an integral part of who we are and how we operate. In addition, recent updates to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) give public universities until April 2026 to remove barriers created by inaccessible content. If you’re not sure what that entails or where to start, sign up for one of these weekly email challenges:
- The 10-Week Accessibility Challenge starting May 20, will teach you about a range of digital accessibility topics and give you tools to apply what you learn to your own projects.
- The Course Accessibility Challenge, starting June 3, will help you make your course content more inclusive for students with disabilities.
Refer to the Michigan Engineering Accessibility website for more information about accessibility or the challenges.
