All CAEN-supported classrooms have a lavalier (clip-on) wireless microphone kept in a charger on or near the lectern. Using this wireless microphone will make it easier for students in the room to hear you and improve the audio quality for recordings or zoom connections. While each room does have secondary microphones to pick up instructor audio for recordings, it will not amplify your voice within the room.
Using the wireless microphone for in-room vocal reinforcement can provide accessibility benefits for students of all hearing abilities. Most rooms now provide a microphone volume adjustment on the lectern touch panel, which can be used to adjust the in-room sound level as appropriate for the audience size and the instructor’s voice.
As a best practice, we encourage the use of wireless microphones in all settings, even if you don’t want your voice amplified in the room. In this case, simply turn the volume all the way down on the touchpanel. Your voice will have little to no amplification in the room, but the recorder will still receive the high quality audio that the wireless mic provides.
If you have questions, concerns or trouble with the room’s A/V equipment, contact [email protected]. If you encounter an A/V issue in a classroom, you can press the Report Problem button on the lectern touch panel to request assistance.
