New home directories for CAEN Linux systems

The CAEN Lab Software Environment (CLSE) for Linux is transitioning users to a different home directory location starting in the Fall 2022 term.

Eligible CAEN users will access their Linux home directory in the same storage space as their CAEN Home Directory on CLSE Windows computers. The CLSE Linux home directory no longer routes to the U-M AFS storage space.

If you are a returning user and have not used the CAEN Lab Software Environment (CLSE) for Linux since the new directory went into service, you may need to reset any user-specific environment or application configurations. These changes are stored in what are commonly called dotfiles. In most cases, you can simply copy your old dotfiles stored in AFS to your new home directory. Visit the CAEN Knowledge Base for information on the new home directory and how to copy over dotfiles.

Data that is stored in AFS will remain accessible at least through the 2022–2023 academic year. Notification will be sent indicating when AFS access will no longer be available on the CAEN-managed Linux system. We do not anticipate it being available after next summer (2023).
