Popular applications to be upgraded in CAEN computer labs for Fall 2022
In preparation for the upcoming school year, the CAEN computer labs will be undergoing many software upgrades. The following is a list of the new versions of popular applications that will be available for Fall 2022:

New features added to the CAEN Lab Software Environment for Linux
In preparation for a new release of the CAEN Lab Software Environment for Linux in Fall 2022, new features have been added to the current environment. These include:
- Accessibility improvements, including a screen magnifier, high contrast settings, on-screen keyboard, and slow/sticky key options
- Additional language support for Chinese, Hindi, and Korean
- New applications, including
Gradescope to end support for Essay/Report assignment type in June 2022
After consideration and feedback from the community, Gradescope has determined they will be discontinuing the Essay/Report assignment type as of June 30, 2022. Although Gradescope will not continue to develop or support the Essay/Report assignment type, some of the functionality will still be available for other assignment types. Specifically:
- Text annotations – Instructors can reuse

There are many excellent and unique resources available for U-M students at the Duderstadt Center (DC). Aside from the well-appointed study and collaboration spaces available on the second and third floors, the DC has many other notable technology offerings:

Engineering classroom microphones to be updated to Shure-only for Winter 2022
Beginning the week of December 13, CAEN will be updating the microphones in College of Engineering classrooms to use Shure models only. Previously, classrooms contained a mix of AKG and Shure microphones, so this change will replace all previous AKG mics with Shure models.
