As you may already know, Canvas will replace CTools as the campus-wide learning management system (LMS) used for courses in Fall 2016. This means that those who teach or support a course at the University will no longer be able to use CTools to publish their course materials. Background about this transition is available on Continue Reading »

QuickTime Removed from the CLSE for Windows
We have removed QuickTime from being available in Application Jukebox on computers running the CLSE for Windows. This was done in response to the following CERT advisory:
CAEN Labs Upgrading to Microsoft Windows 10 for Fall 2016
The CAEN Lab Software Environment (CLSE) will be upgraded to Microsoft Windows 10 for the Fall 2016 term. The change will improve the performance of our software on-demand environment, better support newer computer hardware being released, and provide a similar operating system that students have on their personal computers today.

Improved experience for Engineering students using ITS Sites computers
CAEN has worked with ITS on changes to ITS Sites lab computers that provide an experience more consistent with what Engineering students see in CAEN Labs. Improvements include:
- Mounting of CAEN Windows home directories
- Desktop and Documents folders that follow students and are linked to their CAEN Windows home directory
- Ability to launch Engineering applications
Understanding your CAEN Windows Home Directory (the N: drive)
Included with a CAEN Account, all eligible students are provided with a 5 GB network-accessible online file storage allocation (a.k.a. a “CAEN Windows Home Directory”). CAEN Windows home directories are mounted as the N: network drive when logging into CAEN Windows lab computers and now, ITS Sites Windows lab computers.
When using a CAEN Continue Reading »
Issues with Windows applications and AFS Personal Storage
When using Windows computers in CAEN Labs or ITS Sites, students are encouraged to store their class work and other files in their CAEN Windows Home Directory instead of ITS AFS Personal Storage, M+Box, or M+Google Drive. With M+Box and M+Google Drive, students are constrained to copying files back and forth to local temporary Continue Reading »
The reservation system for CAEN collaborative stations is expanding
The system for reserving CAEN collaborative stations has expanded to include all collaborative stations installed in CAEN computer labs. This includes the collaborative stations in Beyster 1695, G.G. Brown 2570, GFL 224, and the newly installed stations in EECS 1222. Additional stations in the Duderstadt Center will be coming later this term.
EECS 1222 renovated to include reservable CAEN collaborative stations
EECS 1222, located right off the EECS Atrium, is a newly renovated space open to all students on a first-come, first-served basis, or with an advance reservation. It is equipped with two reservable CAEN collaborative workspaces, and a small study area.
